Virtual Reality FAQ
What is virtual reality (VR)?
Virtual reality or virtual realities (VR), which can be referred to as immersive multimedia or computer-simulated reality, replicates an environment that simulates a physical presence in places in the real world or an imagined world, allowing the user to interact in that world.
What are the benefits of virtual reality (VR)?
This is somewhat subjective, but the team at Ctrl V believes that virtual reality is the future of gaming, film, and entertainment in general. This new type of display completely immerses the user in the entertainment, blurring the lines between realities. Interacting with visual content has never before been so intuitive.
I’m not a gamer - is Ctrl V for me?
100% maybe. YES! This new type of entertainment is designed for the masses. Be sure to check out our “How to VR at Ctrl V” instructional video to get a sense of how easy it is to use our equipment. Book your first visit as a 2-for-1, so you can split the time with a friend!
Facility and Hardware FAQ
What is the HTC Vive?
The Vive is a specific brand of head-mounted display (HMD), controllers, and tracking peripherals, which allows the user to see and interact with the virtual environment. Infrared lasers and LEDs are tracked by each component, providing highly-accurate tracking capabilities to transfer your movement to your character in the game.
Why does Ctrl V only offer HTC’s Vive and not any other VR systems?
We’ve gotta start somewhere! And, in our opinion, starting with the HTC Vive was a no-brainer. For one, HTC has partnered with Valve, (creator of games like Half-Life and Portal and) the inventors of Steam – currently the worlds largest content distribution network. With over 65-million active users and the endless line-up of available titles, the Vive is poised to offer some of the most innovative VR experiences – first.
Beyond the partnership with Valve, the Vive also offers superior tracking methods for its head-mounted display (HMD) and peripherals, which nearly eliminates motion-sickness and provides the most immersive VR experience available.
The Vive also offers Chaperone, a “virtual assistant” which uses a front-facing camera on the HMD to project real-world elements (tables, pets, walls, etc.) into your virtual world, giving you peace-of-mind that you are safe and aware of both realities during game play.
What type of equipment is offered at Ctrl V?
Our VR setups feature state-of-the-art equipment to offer an incredibly smooth interactive experience. The hardware lineup can be seen on our website.
What kind of internet does Ctrl V offer / use?
Did someone say hyper speed? Yeah – we just did! You deserve the best, so that’s what we’re bringing you. Up to 1gbps to start, but who knows how high we’ll go!

How do I book a time?
Just like buying tickets for a movie! All bookings at Ctrl V are done in advance through our online booking system, using the following steps:
- Tell us the number of people attending.
- Pick your preferred time slot on our simple booking system.
- Watch the “How to VR at Ctrl V” video in its entirety.

- Complete your payment – that’s it!
*Some locations have different booking procedures. Please visit the location-specific page on our website to learn how to book for that location in particular.
Is there any way I can do a short demo?
Book a 2-for-1 session and bring a friend. For the same price as a 1-hour booking, you can split the time (and cost) with a friend to enable both of you to test out the VR system for a shorter duration. But also note that each Ctrl V location may have different time periods – this should be verified against the location-specific page on our website.
Can I book more than one session in a row?
Yes! You can book as many sessions as your heart desires.
How many people can participate at one time?
Each station can accommodate one (1) person operating a VR system at a time. However, if you have booked a 2-for-1 session, you will be able to share the space (and time) for the duration of your booking!
Can I play a game with the person in the station next to me?
Definitely. Certain software titles will enable you to join your friends in the game. You will be able to communicate with them through the built-in headset microphone, and see your friends’ actions performed by their avatars!
What types of games can I play?
The answer to this is both simple and complex. We offer Steam, a content distribution software (think, Netflix for gaming). Within that platform, you will have access to a number of VR titles. So, within a single booking, you can decide what game(s) you want to play from our library! We will also be conducting monthly surveys to ensure the next titles we offer are the ones that you want.

Ability and Safety FAQ
Are my personal belongings safe while I’m in the VR session?
We provide a key-entry locker for each VR station, at no additional cost, and you hold onto the key throughout the duration of your VR session.
Am I going to walk into walls?
Highly unlikely. Thanks, mostly, to HTC’s incredible Chaperone system, you will have a very good sense of where you are located in real space while playing the VR content. Should you approach any walls, other people, chairs, etc. in the VR station, the Chaperone system will project a blue hologram of that obstacle inside the game. Yes – this sounds like science fiction, but we ensure you it is now science fact.
Is there a minimum / maximum height for a guest?
Technically, there is no minimum height, but users at least four (4) feet or taller will have a better VR experience. On the flip side, any guest who is seven (7) feet or taller may also experience a less-optimal VR experience.
I wear prescription glasses - do I have to take them off?
Not likely! The HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) features slots to allow the average pair of eyewear to fit inside while using the system. The Vive also features adjustment knobs to configure the focus for each eye independently, and a separate adjustment knob to match the screen separation to that of your eyes!
Are there any physical limitations that would prevent me from participating?
The optimal VR experience requires users to move their head and neck, and have use of at least one hand to interact with the environment. At Ctrl V, we can accommodate most skill, mobility and cognitive levels for a range of guests, and our entire Ctrl V facility and all VR stations are wheelchair accessible.
However, be sure to consult your doctor before using visiting Ctrl V if you have pre-existing serious medical conditions (such as a heart ailment), conditions that affect your ability to safely perform physical activities, psychiatric conditions (such as anxiety disorders or post-traumatic stress disorder), or if you are pregnant or elderly.
You should avoid visiting Ctrl V if you are sick, fatigued, under the influence of intoxicants/drugs, or are not feeling generally well, as it may exacerbate your condition.
What happens if I experience motion sickness / unexpected side effects while using a VR system?
As with any motion-related entertainment, some people may be susceptible to unexpected side-effects during the VR session.
Should you feel uneasy at any point, we ask that you stop the VR session and inform a Ctrl V staff member promptly. Each station is equipped with a motion-sickness emergency kit (garbage can), should you require it.
